Can you believe eighty degree weather yesterday! It was the perfect day to open the windows and clear the germs out of the house. What a difference a day can make!

Remember today is recycling day! Take any recyclable paper up to NeSmith Elementary and throw in their bins to help them raise money!

News from our strip plaza next to Napoli's here in Lavon. The Cleaners is moving into Wylie next to Subway in that new plaza. There is a tile company going into our plaza as well as a doctor from Farmersville moving in to our plaza. Hmm interesting I must say. Truth be known I am going to miss Amanda at the cleaners, she is a real sweet heart. Although I still will take my business into her!

I know quite a few of you know I along with a few others here in our neighborhood have lost our fathers in the last year. Please take this time to tell your dad you love them! I miss mine so very much!

On a better note here are a couple of:

Freebies for the Day

Kotex: Move Freely New and improved pads, liners and tampons for ultimate comfort and convenience.Get Your Sample (They sometimes send a dollar coupon in with the sample. If you go to Walmart, you can get a package of pantyliners for a dollar, thus getting them free. I have a drawer that is chuck full of free pantyliners from doing this)

Get RedPlum Coupon Insert in your MailboxWant to start receiving this coupon insert in your mailbox? Some of you may already get it based on where you live, but it's great you can also request it.

Health Tip

This is my tip! The flu is getting worse around Texas. The more you wash your hands the more it can help you keep the flu away. If you catch the flu, please try and stay out of contact with the public including school districts. I know this is basic common sense, but these days, some just do not have common sense!

Driving Tip

This is also my tip! Don't travel to Rockwall unless you necessarily have to. The road construction has become absolutely ridiculous! Maybe in ten years they will have it done!

Money Saving Tip

This is not my tip! Get your books from the library. Simply put, it’s hard to beat free.

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

It's Tuesday the 24th already!

Remember it's garbage day and with that said, it's supposed to be very windy. Make sure your trash cans get pulled in after the trash man goes. I know, I know you get tired of me saying this every week. However, some of us still do not do so!

I have a jar of hot pepper rings that I purchased thinking they were mild. Upon opening the jar for the first time last night and putting one in my mouth, boy was I surprised! Needless to say, I am not going to eat another one. So, if you would like this jar of hot pepper rings, shoot me an email. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these!

Funny Quote for the Day!

Energizer Bunny arrested, charged with battery.

Money Savings Tip

If something’s broken, give a fair shot at repairing it yourself before replacing it or calling a repairman. Get a handyman’s book or advice from the internet and give it a shot yourself. I’ve fixed clocks, air conditioners, and VCRs by doing this before, saving significant cash by saving on a replacement or on a repair person.

It looks like we're in for a decent week of weather, yeah! My rose bushes have lots of new growth and will be filled with lots of roses soon. I need to get more wood chip to add to my front, all the ones I put down last fall have settled. Yard is needing fertilizing, but that will wait a little while.

Any good movies coming out this week? I haven't had the time to see.

For a laugh: If you ever have one of your children's bedroom stinking and you can't see to figure out why, look for socks. After three weeks of being told the dirty clothes were washed, I went into my son's room to find five loads of dirty clothes somewhat hidden. And to my nasty surprise, found lots of wet stinky socks. After removing them, the room smelled much better!

Anyone have any fun spring break trips planned? With the economy the way it is, probably a lot of people won't be doing anything.

Wanted: A full size bed box springs and frame, email Bently Farms if you can help

Health Tip for allergies to pets:

Rent, before you buy. Neil Schachter, MD, medical director of respiratory care at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City advises, “If you are not sure how a family member will react to a pet, spend some time with a friends’ dog or cat.” That way you can determine how big an issue pet allergies may be.

Money Savings Tip

Ask for help and encouragement from your inner circle. Sit down and talk to the people you love and care about the most and ask them for help. Tell them that you’re trying to trim your spending and you’d love it if they offered any suggestions and support they might have - and pay attention to what they tell you. They might have some personal insights for your situation that will really help. (This blog is your inner circle)

Well doesn't our blog format want you to be able to have eighty degree weather sitting on the porch drinking lemonade! Sounds spectacular if you ask me!

The neighborhood in all aspects has been very quiet this week. That's good in a way, but it's also nice to see people out and about.

Let's go back to when I started this site when we were talking about improvement news. Since Mr. Teske has been so generous in helping the front island look so nice and working with Lavon water, he is wondering if all of us can give $25 to help. That will pay for a whole year of watering the front island. Can you help? Please email Bently Farms email! Let’s help him out if you haven't yet! Mr. Teske we appreciate it!

If you haven't sent us your information for our neighborhood directory please do so. Most of us up front here have done it, but any of you in the back haven't yet!

Remember to email if you want to post a party, birthday, anniversary, event of any nature! This is a great way of networking! So far we only have two blogs added to the right, please forward your blog address.

I am going to keep reminding everyone of National Night Out. I need some game ideas and some event ideas from everyone!

The economy is kicking all of our behinds! I have been searching ways to cut corners on bills. Here are a few ideas that are helping my family:
- Turn down your heat by a degree or two, it does add up.
- Try and make sure lights that are on at night get shut off when not in use
- Switch telephone providers for cheaper rates, try Voynage it is great!
- Downgrade your Dish package to a cheaper one
- Eat leftovers
- Call your home insurance to see if they can give you a better rate
- Coupon, coupon, coupon
- Eat out less
- Try to cut your running trips in half

Garbage day is today, so make sure to get all your garbage out! And then pull in your trash cans so they aren't in the middle of the road!

Tuesdays are supposed to be recipe Tuesday, but as now I still have no recipes to post. To my Pokeeno buddies, I know you have some great recipes!

Hot Coupon Picks

T.G.I. Friday's "Buy One Get One Free" Entree A great coupon to use before March 1. Go ahead and sign-up for "Give Me More Stripes" too in order to get a free appetizer.

Quote for the Day

It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

Money Saving Tip

Learn how to dress minimally. Buy clothes that mix and match well and you’ll not need nearly as many clothes. If you have five pants, seven shirts, and seven ties that all go together, you have almost an endless wardrobe right there just by mixing and matching. This is exactly what I do in order to minimize clothes buying and still look professional.

Hmm another holiday down! I hope you all had a very nice Valentine's Day. My hubby was gone, so mine was very quiet!

Did anyone take advantage of the free ten minute call offered on here yesterday? I just wondered how that worked?

According to a couple of sites, National Night Out is August 4th. That means we have six months to plan. Again, lets make this year be the best ever for National Night Out! For those who didn't read this last time, I have rented a jump house for this night.

I was in Walmart the other night and seen that they have lots of toys left from Christmas. These are now getting very cheap. If you have some extra money, please pick a couple of these up. They will be great for our toy drive or even gifts for National Night Out.

Tax Time

It's that time of year again, tax season. I have a wonderful accountant who knows all the loop holes on doing taxes. He has done ours for the last three years and done a great job. If you would like his name and numbers please email me!

Movie Review

We watched "Space Buddies" last night. I would recommend this to anyone who has young kids. This was a very cute movie. Even for adults it's entertaining. Make sure to watch the stuff at the end of the movie. It shows very informative information about space. The puppies are so cute!

Money Savings Tip

Brown bag your lunch. Instead of going out to eat at work, take your own lunch. Lots of people think that this means “nasty lunch,” but it doesn’t. With some thoughtful preparation and just a few minutes of time, you can create something quite enjoyable for your brown bag lunch - and save a fistful of cash each day, too.

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day!

Thank goodness the neighborhood made it through the storm Tuesday night in great shape! It had a bunch of us worried. With the lights out it made for an interesting evening to say the least!

If you have a son/daughter playing baseball/softball I want to let you know that Tom is the Vice President. If you have any problems, it doesn't matter what time it is or what day it is, please call him (214) 687-7802. He wants this year to be alot better than the last few have gone. With the new baseball fields that will be started building as soon as possible, he hopes to bring all the kids that have left the CYA to come back here to play. Without problems being fixed and good words about playing ball being said, things can't change. Please help support this year by being good parents on the side lines, but yet letting the board know if you are upset about something.

I will be moving our sign up front behind the Bently Farm sign so that you'll see it when leaving instead of when entering the neighborhood. I'm sure some of you may be tired of seeing it, but for others, it will soon be there to remind them!

To the Pokeeno ladies, it was a fun night last night! If you want to sign up as a substitute player, please contact us. We would love to meet you!

Congrats to Melissa Crabtrey who is going to be having her first baby later this year. And also to Kim Morgan, who is going to have her second baby this summer! We wish you the best!

As some of you know Tom and I are adopting a baby girl from China. We have been waiting for over two years now and probably will be waiting another two years to get a referral. We have decided to in the meantime try and adopt a baby from around here. With that said, we are asking that all of you keep your ear our for any mom that you may here of that is looking to put her baby up for adoption. If you belong to a church, can you mention it to your pastor? We thank you so very much!

We have some good news on the tornado alarms that we are working to have put up in the city, it looks like we might get some grants for up to 75% of the costs of putting this in! Jeaneen has worked very hard over the last two weeks looking into this. Her and I will be the ones getting recipes collected and put into a book to help raise the other 25%. Stay tuned!

Cute:

Wouldn't our kiddos love this! Thanks Mindy for sending this to me!

Health Tip

For the nasty cold: Blow Your Nose Often -- and the Right Way
It's important to blow your nose regularly when you have a cold rather than sniffling mucus back into your head. But when you blow hard, pressure can cause an earache. The best way to blow your nose: Press a finger over one nostril while you blow gently to clear the other. Wash your hands after blowing your nose.

Money Saving Tip

Don’t fear leftovers - instead, jazz them up. Many people dread eating leftovers - they’re just inferior rehashes of regular meals, not exactly enjoyable to the discerning palate. However, there’s nothing cheaper than eating leftovers and with a few great techniques for making leftovers tasty, you can often end up with something surprising and quite delicious on the other end.

6 Days until Valentine's Day (which counts the day of Valentine's Day)

Well I have lots of people complaing that this weekend got away from them way too fast! It was a rather gloomy weekend around here without the sun out that much. Well l think we really need some rain tomorrow, so it will not be that bad to be gloomy again!

Well have any of you saw "Nights in Rodanthe" yet? It will be out on Tuesday. I didn't get to see it yet and wondered if it was a good show!

I really wish some of you would comment on anything! There are lots of us here in the neighborhood, and I find it hard to think that no one as anything to say!

Health Tip

Balance your food choices over time. Not every food has to be "perfect." When eating a food high in fat, salt or sugar, select other foods that are low in these ingredients. If you miss out on any food group one day, make up for it the next. Your food choices over several days should fit together into a healthy pattern.

Money Savings Tip

Swap babysitting with neighbors. We live in a neighborhood with an army of young children out and about. Because of that, there are a lot of parents out there who are quite willing to swap babysitting nights with us, saving you the money of hiring one for an evening out. A few families even take this to incredible extremes. Try to find another set of parents or two that you trust, and swap nights of babysitting with them. That way, you’ll get occasional evenings free without the cost of a babysitter, saving you some scratch.

An "Unknown Tip" that a lot of people don't know about cooking!

If you have cookies or maybe brown sugar that gets hard, put a piece of bread in the bag with them, seal it and leave it for a day. The cookies and brown sugar will absorb the moisture from the bread thus making them soft again! I was absolutely surprised when so many people said they had never heard of that.

Cookbooks

We haven't forgot about putting out fliers to get your recipes for a neighborhood cookbook! A couple of us with this idea have been down with the flu. So make sure to think about your one or two best recipes that you would like to share!

Well that's all unless someone wants to add a comment! Happy Monday!

Eight Days Until Valentines Day!

Last Day: CYA Baseball sign ups are today from 9:00 a.m to 12:00 pm at the McClendon Elementary School today. If your son is interested and wants to play baseball today is the day! This year is going to be a better year than previous years, so come out and join CYA.

It's going to be another very windy day, so make sure all your stuff outside is secured! I know there is a trade show up in Farmersville today if you're interested!

Awesome Coupon Reminder

Buy a dozen donuts at Krispy Kreme by February 14 and get 12 free Valentine’s Day cards as part of Krispy Kreme’s “Share the Love” promotion. Okay, free cards are nice on their own, but there’s a free donut coupon on the back of each card. Nice! Here’s a list of participating stores.

Money Savings Tip

Eat breakfast. Eating a healthy breakfast fills you up with energy for the day and also decreases your desire to eat a big lunch in the middle of the day. Not only that, breakfast can be very healthy, quick, and inexpensive. A bowl of oatmeal in the morning is often the one thing that keeps me from running out to eat an expensive lunch later in the day - and it keeps me peppy and full of energy for the entire morning instead of in a coffee-laced daze.

Resting when you first come down with a cold or the flu helps your body direct its energy toward the immune battle. This battle taxes the body. So give it a little help by lying down under a blanket.

Money Saving Tip

Quote for the Day

Money Saving Tip

Create a visual reminder of your debt. Basically, just make a giant progress bar that starts with the amount of debt you have and ends with zero. Each time you pay down a little bit, fill in a little more of that progress bar. Keep this reminder in a place where you’ll see it often, and keep filling it in regularly. It keeps your eyes on the prize and leads you straight to debt freedom.

Sunday, February 1, 2009

It is February 1st already! Let's make a countdown until Valentine's Day. This will remind you to get your sweetie something sweet!

So 14 Days until Valentines Day!

A reminder for CYA baseball sign ups will continue this week, Saturday is your last day!

I have noticed the police driving the neighborhood a little more this week. I just wanted to take a minute to tell them thanks if they have happened to look at our blog.

I think having a neighborhood blog puts us a little closer than other neighborhoods. That is also why I really, really need all of you to help us with recipes! If you're not sure what I am talking about, please read some of the older blogs from the last week or so.

Also still need to know if any of you know when National Night Out is this year. I have rented an inflatable jump house for the kids. I am need of someone to think of lighting so that we can see. I also am hoping that some of you can pick up some very, discounted toys for the game winners. I know it's early, but the early planning will help make this a success!

It's Super Bowl Sunday. I hope you all have a spectacular day watching the game! May your pick win!
