Thank you to all that has been helping my family since I have been in Michigan with my mom. My dad died last thursday from a heart attack , he was only 56!

Thanks to all who gave toys for the toy drive that I had been putting together for the last month. I don't know how it turned out, but I will find that out when I get back home. The drawing should be done soon after for the gift certificate.

I probably will not be posting until after the new year. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe New Year.

God Bless and please take a moment to tell your loved ones you love them before it's too late!

1st Annual Christmas Toy Drive

This is going to be such a fun and rewarding drive to do! I hope that most if not ALL of our neighborhood can participate in this wonderful toy drive.

At last count there were over 500 children in need. Over 100 of those attend Community Schools!

Pickup of toys will be December 13th around 2:00 p.m. Please do not wrap your donations. Leave them hanging on your front door or in clear view for me to see. If you're not comfortable leaving it outside, then please call me and I'll pick it up before then. Cheri at 972-843-4545

Remember also to leave your name and phone number with your donation. These will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card to one of the three following restaurants of your choice: SaltGrass, Olive Garden, or Chilis.

13 Shopping Days Left

Any ideas from anyone on how to get in the Christmas mood this year? I have had a couple of people ask me, and I am like umm??

Recycling day is today. Please remember that NeSmith Elementary is doing a fundraiser by collecting paper and newspapers to recycle. Please drop this stuff off at the school in their drop boxes in the parking lot.

13 Shopping Days means 13 days left until Christmas, which means thirteen days until Christmas. You still have time to decorate your front yards and help our community look festive!

Bently Farms Toy Drive is this Saturday!

Also, I forgot to post yesterday. A resident of Bently Farms called me this morning to say he had taken in a stray Poodle last night because it was cold. He was calling SPCA to pick it up this morning but I thought I’d let you know just in case through your network you hear of someone who is missing a Poodle. I have the man’s name and number.

Money Savings Tip

Do a “maintenance run” on your appliances. Check them to make sure there isn’t any dust clogging them and that they’re fairly clean. Look behind the appliances, and use your vacuum to gently clear away dust. Check all of the vents, especially on refrigerators, dryers, and heating and cooling units. The less dust you have blocking the mechanics of these devices, the more efficiently they’ll run (saving you on your energy bill) and the longer they’ll last (saving you on replacement costs).

Freebies for the Day

I’ll check later to see if any new freebies have been added. If so, I will add them then!

Freebies for the Day!

Sorry there aren't any that I see today! The boards are empty do to it getting close to Christmas. I will look tomorrow!

Health Tip

Fragrance for Pleasant Dreams and Restful Sleep
Researchers have found that exposing scented roses to volunteers in their sleep can help in having pleasant dreams. Studies on a group of 15 volunteers who were exposed to smells of rotten eggs and roses for 30 nights have indicated that smell has an effect on human emotions. After exposing the volunteers to these smells, they were woken up and asked to recollect their dreams. Those exposed to floral scents recorded having pleasant positive dreams and those exposed to the unpleasant smell of rotten eggs were recorded as having negative dreams.

Money Savings Tip

Don’t spend money just to de-stress. Quite often, I used to spend money just to wind down from a stressful day at work. Instead, I’ve found that I quite often feel much better by going home and taking some quiet time just to stretch and then meditate. I end up feeling much more together, happy, and ready to face an evening with the kids in the right mindset than I ever would by just blowing some cash after work. Instead of spending to de-stress, try some basic meditation techniques, stretching, or yoga and see how you feel.

15 Shopping Days Left!

Brrrrrrrr! Make sure to bundle up today, it’s very chilly outside today!

I found out that a chain letter I am guilty of sending out yesterday regarding Bill Gates paying for every forwarded email is just a spoof! Sorry ladies; it would have been nice.

Any family blogs you would like to share with our community. We would love to follow your family’s blogs!

It’s mid week, please remember our Christmas toy drive this Saturday!!

Any birthdays, anniversaries, new babies, or new announcements you would like to announce? Please forward them to our website.

Johnson's Save $3 on 3 products, any Johnson's product (except 4 oz.) qualifies including Desitin and Johnson's Buddies

Money Savings Tip

Challenge yourself to try making your own things. Before I tried it myself, I thought homemade bread making was complicated and a waste of time and money. I came to find out that it was pretty easy and it was actually much cheaper, healthier, and tastier than buying a loaf from the store. Now, we rarely ever buy bread products at the store - and we save money by making that choice.

Health Tip

Reduce Stress Easier said than done, stress busters come in many forms. Some techniques recommended by experts are to think positive thoughts. Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like. (i.e.,Soak in a hot tub; walk on the beach or in a park; read a good book; visit a friend; play with your dog; listen to soothing music; watch a funny movie. Get a massage, a facial or a haircut. Meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible. Thought for the day: When seeing red, think pink clouds….then float on them.

16 Shopping Days Left, Oh My!!

Freebies for Kids

Health Tip

To add strength to leg muscles and get a cardiovascular workout at the same time, try climbing plain old stairs. This can be done at home, in your office, apartment building, or on stair-climbing machines in the gym. Climbing two steps at a time is good for building the quadriceps (thigh muscles) and the gluteus (butt). Going down steps builds strength in the quadriceps and to a lesser extent, the hamstrings.

Money Savings Tip

Do a price comparison - and find a cheaper grocery store. Most of us get in a routine of shopping at the same grocery store, even though quite often it’s not the one that offers the best deals on our most common purchases. Fortunately, there’s a simple way to find the cheapest store around. Just keep track of the twenty or so things you buy most often, then shop for these items at a variety of stores. Eventually, one store will come out on top for your purchases - just make that one your regular shopping destination and you’ll automatically save money.

Health Tip

A measles-mumps-rubella vaccine is suggested for women of child-bearing age, college students, health-care workers, and people who travel internationally. All of those people -- plus teachers and day-care workers -- should also have a varicella vaccine.

Money Savings Tip

Plan your meals around your grocery store’s flyer. Instead of just planning your meals based on a cookbook or whatever you can dream up, plan all your meals around what’s on sale in your grocery store’s flyer. Look at the biggest sales, then plan meals based on those ingredients and what you have on hand, and you’ll find yourself with a much smaller food bill than you’re used to.

Money Savings Tip

When you are going to be on vacation or are not going to drive a vehicle for a few weeks for some reason call your insurance company and suspend the coverage on the vehicle. Hardly anybody knows they can do this. Insurance companies earn the premium you pay up front during each day the policy is in force. When coverage is suspended they do not earn any premium for those days … your money is still there when you reinstate the coverages and you only pay for the days you’re using the vehicle. You can keep the comprehensive coverage and suspend everything else - you’ll still be covered for theft, vandalislm, etc. if something happens to your car while you’re gone but you don’t have to pay for liability. DON’T PAY FOR SOMETHING YOU’RE NOT USING.

If you by chance missed Norma’s Pampered Chef party last night, I’m sure if you get a hold of her today she could still add something to her order for you!

Recycling day is today. Please remember that NeSmith Elementary is doing a fundraiser by collecting paper and newspapers to recycle. Please drop this stuff off at the school in their drop boxes in the parking lot.

Recipes

I find it hard to believe that no one has a good recipe to share for a neighborhood recipe book! Come on guys the holiday is coming up and you have to have that one of a kind recipe!

Money Savings Tip

Hide your credit cards. Take your credit cards and put them in a safe place in your home, not in your wallet where it’s easy to spend them. If you argue that you need it for “emergencies,” just be sure to keep a small amount of cash hidden in your wallet for these emergencies. Don’t keep plastic on you until you have the willpower to not use it even when you’re sorely tempted.

Freebies For The Day

Here’s a new treatment for burns that I have never heard of until my father-in-law was burned by a pan on Thanksgiving day! Immediately dampen a paper towel with milk and put on burn. In most cases’ the milk will keep it from festering up.

Money Savings Tip

Clean your car’s air filter. A clean air filter can improve your gas mileage by up to 7%, saving you more than $100 for every 10,000 miles you drive in an average vehicle. Plus, cleaning your air filter is easy to do in just a few minutes - just follow the instructions in your automobile’s manual and you’re good to go.

I brought our blog sign in for the day so that the wind doesn't begin to bend it!

If you need to post something out in the front using the lamppost, can you please make sure to later go out and get the paper and tape back of the lamppost. Let’s keep our neighborhood looking fresh.

Also after the trash man goes on Tuesday try and get your garbage cans back up to the house or else they become road hazards. I know someone was ever so gracious to pull mine up yesterday. Thanks for that!

Install a programmable thermostat. These devices regulate the temperature in your house automatically according to the schedule that you set. Thus, when you’re not home, it allows the heating or cooling to turn off for several hours, saving you on your energy bill. A programmable thermostat can easily cut your energy bill by 10 to 20%.

Water and other fluids. You can't flush a cold out of your system, but drinking plenty of liquids can help. Water, juice, clear broth or warm lemon water with honey helps loosen congestion and prevents dehydration. Avoid alcohol, coffee and caffeinated sodas, which make dehydration worse.

Money Savings Tip
