Our School Children Are Not Allowed to Talk
Dear neighbors I just resently found out that in the mornings when our children arrive to school they have to go sit in the gym and are not allowed to talk at all. They are allowed to read or do homework, I do not know of a single kindergartener who can read and it isn't until the middle of the first grade year that they can even read Dick and Jane. The doors of the schools open at 7:30 and most of the buses arrive at 7:35. That leaves our children sitting in silence for 30 to 40 minutes until the bell rings. I am lucky that I do stay home and can take my children to school, but that could change tomorrow. I have brought my concerns and remedies to the principal, which was recieved luke warmly. She has decided to start only with the kindergarteners, to be pulled out of the gym and read to by a volunteer. I am asking all parents to please help me and our children with this issue. Every volunteer is needed to turn this from a daily or even weekly event to a monthly or to maybe annually. To our early rising seniors, what better way to start your day than to help teach our future. I am hoping that a month after helping our kindergarteners we will be able to help the rest of the school. All that is needed is to fill out a three line back ground check and we will be in business. contact me jeaneeneli22@yahoo.com

Jeaneen,
I know all about that! I had that problem last year with Kyle and he was not a happy camper. Why the elementary school thinks they have to run like a military campus is really beyond me. I think maybe what parents should propose is a signed petition against this and other things such as lunch. There are enough parents in the area that probably could sign it. Our kids are kids, and thus should be allowed to act like kids.
