Thank you to all that has been helping my family since I have been in Michigan with my mom. My dad died last thursday from a heart attack , he was only 56!

Thanks to all who gave toys for the toy drive that I had been putting together for the last month. I don't know how it turned out, but I will find that out when I get back home. The drawing should be done soon after for the gift certificate.

I probably will not be posting until after the new year. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe New Year.

God Bless and please take a moment to tell your loved ones you love them before it's too late!

The Lail Family

Our sincere regards and sympathy are sent to the Lail family as they are mourning the loss of their loved one during this holiday season. Thank you to our neighborhood friends who have helped and have offered to help with a few meals. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.

1st Annual Christmas Toy Drive

This is going to be such a fun and rewarding drive to do! I hope that most if not ALL of our neighborhood can participate in this wonderful toy drive.

At last count there were over 500 children in need. Over 100 of those attend Community Schools!

Pickup of toys will be December 13th around 2:00 p.m. Please do not wrap your donations. Leave them hanging on your front door or in clear view for me to see. If you're not comfortable leaving it outside, then please call me and I'll pick it up before then. Cheri at 972-843-4545

Remember also to leave your name and phone number with your donation. These will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card to one of the three following restaurants of your choice: SaltGrass, Olive Garden, or Chilis.

13 Shopping Days Left

Any ideas from anyone on how to get in the Christmas mood this year? I have had a couple of people ask me, and I am like umm??

Recycling day is today. Please remember that NeSmith Elementary is doing a fundraiser by collecting paper and newspapers to recycle. Please drop this stuff off at the school in their drop boxes in the parking lot.

13 Shopping Days means 13 days left until Christmas, which means thirteen days until Christmas. You still have time to decorate your front yards and help our community look festive!

Bently Farms Toy Drive is this Saturday!

Also, I forgot to post yesterday. A resident of Bently Farms called me this morning to say he had taken in a stray Poodle last night because it was cold. He was calling SPCA to pick it up this morning but I thought I’d let you know just in case through your network you hear of someone who is missing a Poodle. I have the man’s name and number.

Money Savings Tip

Do a “maintenance run” on your appliances. Check them to make sure there isn’t any dust clogging them and that they’re fairly clean. Look behind the appliances, and use your vacuum to gently clear away dust. Check all of the vents, especially on refrigerators, dryers, and heating and cooling units. The less dust you have blocking the mechanics of these devices, the more efficiently they’ll run (saving you on your energy bill) and the longer they’ll last (saving you on replacement costs).

Freebies for the Day

I’ll check later to see if any new freebies have been added. If so, I will add them then!

Freebies for the Day!

Sorry there aren't any that I see today! The boards are empty do to it getting close to Christmas. I will look tomorrow!

Health Tip

Fragrance for Pleasant Dreams and Restful Sleep
Researchers have found that exposing scented roses to volunteers in their sleep can help in having pleasant dreams. Studies on a group of 15 volunteers who were exposed to smells of rotten eggs and roses for 30 nights have indicated that smell has an effect on human emotions. After exposing the volunteers to these smells, they were woken up and asked to recollect their dreams. Those exposed to floral scents recorded having pleasant positive dreams and those exposed to the unpleasant smell of rotten eggs were recorded as having negative dreams.

Money Savings Tip

Don’t spend money just to de-stress. Quite often, I used to spend money just to wind down from a stressful day at work. Instead, I’ve found that I quite often feel much better by going home and taking some quiet time just to stretch and then meditate. I end up feeling much more together, happy, and ready to face an evening with the kids in the right mindset than I ever would by just blowing some cash after work. Instead of spending to de-stress, try some basic meditation techniques, stretching, or yoga and see how you feel.

15 Shopping Days Left!

Brrrrrrrr! Make sure to bundle up today, it’s very chilly outside today!

I found out that a chain letter I am guilty of sending out yesterday regarding Bill Gates paying for every forwarded email is just a spoof! Sorry ladies; it would have been nice.

Any family blogs you would like to share with our community. We would love to follow your family’s blogs!

It’s mid week, please remember our Christmas toy drive this Saturday!!

Johnson's Save $3 on 3 products, any Johnson's product (except 4 oz.) qualifies including Desitin and Johnson's Buddies

Money Savings Tip

Challenge yourself to try making your own things. Before I tried it myself, I thought homemade bread making was complicated and a waste of time and money. I came to find out that it was pretty easy and it was actually much cheaper, healthier, and tastier than buying a loaf from the store. Now, we rarely ever buy bread products at the store - and we save money by making that choice.

Health Tip

Reduce Stress Easier said than done, stress busters come in many forms. Some techniques recommended by experts are to think positive thoughts. Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like. (i.e.,Soak in a hot tub; walk on the beach or in a park; read a good book; visit a friend; play with your dog; listen to soothing music; watch a funny movie. Get a massage, a facial or a haircut. Meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible. Thought for the day: When seeing red, think pink clouds….then float on them.

16 Shopping Days Left, Oh My!!

Remember Tina’s Gold Party is this evening! See her info on yesterday’s post!

Tomorrow is trash day. We may be having gusts up to 40 mph winds, so make sure you bring your garbage cans back where they won’t end up back in the street!

We are brought the toy drive banner and blog site sign that were up front in for the day because the wind. They will be put back out on Wednesday!

Freebies for Kids

Health Tip

To add strength to leg muscles and get a cardiovascular workout at the same time, try climbing plain old stairs. This can be done at home, in your office, apartment building, or on stair-climbing machines in the gym. Climbing two steps at a time is good for building the quadriceps (thigh muscles) and the gluteus (butt). Going down steps builds strength in the quadriceps and to a lesser extent, the hamstrings.

Money Savings Tip

Do a price comparison - and find a cheaper grocery store. Most of us get in a routine of shopping at the same grocery store, even though quite often it’s not the one that offers the best deals on our most common purchases. Fortunately, there’s a simple way to find the cheapest store around. Just keep track of the twenty or so things you buy most often, then shop for these items at a variety of stores. Eventually, one store will come out on top for your purchases - just make that one your regular shopping destination and you’ll automatically save money.

Health Tip

A measles-mumps-rubella vaccine is suggested for women of child-bearing age, college students, health-care workers, and people who travel internationally. All of those people -- plus teachers and day-care workers -- should also have a varicella vaccine.

Money Savings Tip

Plan your meals around your grocery store’s flyer. Instead of just planning your meals based on a cookbook or whatever you can dream up, plan all your meals around what’s on sale in your grocery store’s flyer. Look at the biggest sales, then plan meals based on those ingredients and what you have on hand, and you’ll find yourself with a much smaller food bill than you’re used to.

Money Savings Tip

When you are going to be on vacation or are not going to drive a vehicle for a few weeks for some reason call your insurance company and suspend the coverage on the vehicle. Hardly anybody knows they can do this. Insurance companies earn the premium you pay up front during each day the policy is in force. When coverage is suspended they do not earn any premium for those days … your money is still there when you reinstate the coverages and you only pay for the days you’re using the vehicle. You can keep the comprehensive coverage and suspend everything else - you’ll still be covered for theft, vandalislm, etc. if something happens to your car while you’re gone but you don’t have to pay for liability. DON’T PAY FOR SOMETHING YOU’RE NOT USING.

Recipes

I find it hard to believe that no one has a good recipe to share for a neighborhood recipe book! Come on guys the holiday is coming up and you have to have that one of a kind recipe!

Money Savings Tip

Hide your credit cards. Take your credit cards and put them in a safe place in your home, not in your wallet where it’s easy to spend them. If you argue that you need it for “emergencies,” just be sure to keep a small amount of cash hidden in your wallet for these emergencies. Don’t keep plastic on you until you have the willpower to not use it even when you’re sorely tempted.

Freebies For The Day

Water and other fluids. You can't flush a cold out of your system, but drinking plenty of liquids can help. Water, juice, clear broth or warm lemon water with honey helps loosen congestion and prevents dehydration. Avoid alcohol, coffee and caffeinated sodas, which make dehydration worse.

Wow, there were a lot of people out shopping early yesterday morning! JCPenney’s has some great deals! I would have to say that Penney’s is one of the best places to save money. I spent $198 and save well over $200! I then went to stand in line at Target where the line grew so long it wrapped around the building! I was able to actually run through the store and grab what I was after, so that was the good news! The bad news is while standing in line at Target we heard that an older lady was pushed into the middle display and hurt at Kohl’s, and a little boy was hit in the face at Walmart. People really need to learn that saving money isn’t worth hurting others! All in all it was a great morning just very, very tiring!

Anyone else have any great stories of shopping and saving money on Black Friday or today! Please share!!

Also, with all the great deals going on please remember to pick up that toy or hoodie for our Toy Drive that I will be collecting for in December. Please call me if you have any questions! Cheri at 972-843-4545.

Money Saving Tip

Please visit the site: www.Retailmenot.com On this website you can input any store that you want to shop online at and it will give you codes that you can use to save money or receive free items along with your purchase. Check it out! I saved 10% at Kohl’s today at their online store using this code! At Victoria’s Secret you can use a code to get a free scarf with purchase of a sweater!

Freebie for the Day

Happy Thanksgiving!

As you may see, we had more of a permanent blog sign made and put up in the front as you drive in. This sign cost $30. I am looking for any donations to help pay for the cost of this sign. If you have been keeping up with the blog site, you will see that it will often let you know of ways to save money and get free stuff, so giving a little bit of money to help on this is well worth it.

Here is the Black Friday’s website to see what great deals are going on bright and early Friday morning: http://www.theblackfriday.com/

I received this Happy Thanksgiving Picture from Macy’s and fell in love with it. So just thought I would show you all how cute cartoons can still be!

Christmas lights are starting to appear on homes throughout the neighborhood. Let’s see how many neighbors we can get to decorate the outsides of their home this year! Let’s make our neighborhood not only the best givers, but the best decorators!

With any luck we can have a larger tree planted up in the front and maybe have our own tree lighting next year!

Money Saving Tip

Be diligent about turning off lights before you leave. If you spend one minute turning off lights before a two hour trip, that’s
the equivalent of earning $50 an hour. That’s some impressive savings, particularly if you do it before longer trips. The key is to use less energy, particularly when you’re not using the device.

Kids Safety Tip

Holiday cooking: I love all that holiday food, but remember kids and pets should stay away from cooking areas. Declare a three-foot "kid-free zone " around the stove.

Freebie for the Day

Remember if you do online shopping, order through your store through Ebates and earn a certain percentage back in your account. Visit Ebates to learn more.

Oprah is offering a

Get a

Christmas Toy Drive Update!

I spoke to the lady in charge of collecting toys for our area this Christmas. She is actually doing the angel trees around the area. It was a pleasure talking with her and a bit sad at the same time. She stated that at this time she has over 375 kids up to the age of 17 in the Lavon/Wylie area who won’t be having a Christmas without everyone’s help! She said that is a record number to have before Thanksgiving.

With that said, our neighborhood really needs to go all out and do as much as possible. It’s not necessary to pick a name off the angel trees, you can just pick up a toy. She said those will help fill in the cracks. However, if you want to take a name from the angel trees you’re more than welcome. I will also collect those the same day.

One additional piece of information. If you still haven’t picked up anything, here are some needed items. She said the older kids normally get left out. They would like such things as hoodies, gloves without fingers, and beanie caps. If you don’t have the time to shop, you can donate money and I’ll buy those items through my embroidery warehouse where I can pick them up for wholesale prices.

Go bug your neighbors and make sure they have picked something up! I am so excited to know that we could be such a huge help. If you’re wanting to help in some way, this lady needs all the help she can get.

Thanksgiving Money Savings Tip

With Thanksgiving only a few days away; did you know you could purchase the same great dinner for a fraction of the cost?
First, don't be afraid to search around town for the best deals, stores are offering discounts on Thanksgiving items this week. Couple that with coupon clipping and you could save a bundle.
Deciding where to spend and splurge could also cut costs, buying a frozen turkey and using canned cranberries usually saves money. And baking that homemade pie from scratch could save a few bucks.

Thanksgiving Health Tip

Don't go to the Thanksgiving dinner hungry: we often eat faster and more when we are hungry - therefore eat a wholesome breakfast and lunch on the day to avoid overeating at dinner time.

Reminder

Usually I don’t repeat so quickly in the week; however, this is a special reminder! This week I am sure everyone will be busy getting ready for Thanksgiving! Sometimes we get so busy that we don’t have time to bake cookies or a cake for going to our families or friends home. If you are one of these people, please email me at Bently Farms. We would love to help you out! We can make some great cookies and some basic cakes! Also, if anyone of you just can’t get out shopping for Thanksgiving, send me an email me. And the last thing, if your family don’t have the money to make your own food on Thanksgiving, please email and let us know how we could help you! We are here to help make this Thanksgiving a wonderful holiday!

Health Tip

You cannot cure a cold. It is a virus and must run its course. However, you can treat your symptoms with many different types of over the counter medications.
Antihistamines can help with itching, watery eyes, runny noses and scratchy throat. Decongestants will help with a stuffy nose and sinus headaches. If you have a cough that is keeping you awake at night, you can take a cough syrup (suppressant). You should not take cough syrup during the day because coughing prevents congestion from settling and becoming infected.

Money Savings Tip

Make a quadruple batch of a casserole. Casseroles are nice, easy dishes to prepare, but on busy nights, it’s often still easier to just order some take-out or eat out or just plop a prepackaged meal in the oven. Instead, the next time you make a casserole, make four batches of it and put the other three in the freezer. Then, the next time you need a quick meal for the family, grab one of those batches and just heat it up - easy as can be. Even better, doing this allows you to buy the ingredients in bulk, making each casserole cheaper than it would be ordinarily - and far, far cheaper than eating out or trying a prepackaged meal.

Any one miss the first couple of weeks of us having this site? If you are one of them and haven’t sent us your info for our phone directory, please email us your phone number, name, address, and email address. We won’t give this out to anyone, but us here in our neighborhood.

Freebie for Men!

Remember you can still enter this daily! Click here to: win a trip to the Rose Bowl? Comcast is offering this sweepstakes to win 4 tickets to the Rose Bowl game on New Year's Day in Pasadena, California plus the prize includes airfare and hotel accommodations (prize valued at over $5,000).

Health Tip

Someone needs to send me a new health tip for tomorrow! I didn’t receive any today! This helps us all out a lot. So, if you have a great idea on this, please email us!

Money Saving Tips

Cut back on the convenience foods - fast foods, microwave meals, and so on. Instead of eating fast food or just nuking some prepackaged food when you get home, try making some simple and healthy replacements that you can take with you. An hour’s worth of preparation one weekend can give you a ton of cheap and handy meals that will end up saving you a lot of cash and not eat into your time when you’re busy. – In the last month, we have saved a lot of money by not eating out every week!

Sunday, November 23, 2008

It’s been a pretty quiet week with our site! Movie Review

Alright did anyone go see “Twilight” this weekend? It was a sell out the first night it was out. And boy was it a hit with many, many people. If you have read the book, you need to go see the movie. The only thing I will tell you is boy is it interesting and funny in places. If you have seen it, please email us and let us know what you thought.

Braves Football Game

And sorry to all the players and fans that went to see our school football game Friday night. We pretty much got our behinds beat bad!! Congrats on how far you guys made it this year, it was a first in many years! Maybe next year!

Saturday, November 22, 2008

The weekend is here and Thanksgiving will soon be here! Again, if you are shopping please remember to pick up a toy for our Toy Drive in December! There soon will be a Toy Drive Banner put up front to hopefully get us all in the Christmas mood!

If you’ve been busy all week and haven’t had a chance to look at this site, please take a couple of minutes and look at what you missed!

Money Savings Tip

Clean out your closet. Go through your closets and try to get rid of some of the stuff in there. You can have a yard sale with it, take it to a consignment shop, or even donate it for the tax deduction - all of which turn old stuff you don’t want to use any more into money in your pocket. Not only that, it’s often a psychological load off your mind to clean out your closets. If you have the time EBay works great!!!

Freebies For the Day

Kotex Lightdays Thin Liners - brand new sample!
Free Song Download - a new song each week

Let’s think of our military men and women this holiday season:

The American Red Cross is sponsoring a national "Holiday Mail for Heroes" campaign to receive and distribute holiday cards to service members and veterans both in the United States and abroad.

Holiday Mail for Heroes, which began Tuesday, Veterans Day, is a follow-up to the 2007 effort that resulted in the collection and distribution of more than 600,000 cards to hospitalized service members. This year's program will expand its reach to not only wounded service members but also veterans and their families. The goal is to collect and distribute 1 million pieces of holiday mail.

"As we enter this holiday season-a time to celebrate with family and friends-it's important to remember the thousands of men and women who serve our nation in harm's way and those who are recovering in military and veterans hospitals," said Army Col. Norvell V. Coots, commander, Walter Reed Health Care System. "The Holiday Mail for Heroes program is a wonderful outreach effort and a great way to acknowledge the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform."

Holiday cards should be mailed to:
Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD. 20791-5456

All cards must be postmarked no later than Dec. 10. Cards should not be mailed or delivered to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. For more information, visit www.wramc.amedd.army.mil or
www.redcross.org/holidaymail for Holiday Mail for Heroes program guidelines. Walter Reed is not accepting mail addressed to "A Recovering American Soldier

Recycling

Just a reminder tomorrow is recycling day. If you have any papers and magazines that you are going to recycle, then please take it up to NeSmith Elementary where they can use it to raise money. They have a bin out front to drop it off in.

Recipe?

Any new recipes for us to put in our neighborhood recipe file? It will be interesting to see what we all eat. Some of us are from northeast, northwest, southeast, etc… where food is always a little different!

Braves Football Area Finals Game Tonight!

Come out and support our school team in their first play off game in over 35 years! This game will be played in Gilmer, Texas against the New Boston Lions. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. This is being played at the Gilmer Buckeye Stadium, N. Bradford St. at Buffalo St. Go Braves!!

“Twilight”

Not a fan of football, the movie “Twilight” is out in the movie theatres today! Pssst… that’s what I’ll be doing tonight!

Money Savings Tip

Don’t spend big money entertaining your children. Most children, especially young ones, can be entertained very cheaply. Buy them an end roll of newspaper from your local paper and let their creativity run wild. Make a game out of ordinary stuff around the house, like tossing pennies into a jar, even. Realize that what your children want most of all is your time, not your stuff, and you’ll find money in your pocket and joy in your heart.

Freebies for the Day!

My favorite coupon this week is the
Save $2 on any Ouchless Goody Hair Accessory. Walmart has a couple of options of Ouchless products that are around $2.28. So after using the coupon you spend a total of .28 cents!

Happy 14th Birthday to Mr. Steven Lail!!

Remember:

If you haven’t got a chance to send Mr. Teske the $25 for working with Lavon Water to pay for the back water bill for the front island, please email so that I can get you his address if you don’t already have it!

If you need a storage barn built, Tom Lail would love to give you a quote: 214-687-7802

If you’re up for buying a new vehicle, visit Tomes Ford in McKinney and see Mike Cooper.

Cheri Lail has a case of ten Motts vegetable juice sitting on top of her trash can that is free to anyone that wants to stop by and pick them up. No one in her home likes them!

We are in the process of having a sign made to place up front to announce our website; it is going to cost $30. Norma Martin is willing to donate $10. Would anyone else be willing to help out with the cost of this sign?

Money Savings Tip

Make your own gifts instead of buying stuff from the store. You can make food mixes, candles, bread, cookies, soap, and all kinds of other things at home quite easily and inexpensively. These make spectacular gifts for others because they involve your homemade touch, plus quite often they’re consumable, meaning they don’t wind up filling someone’s closet with junk.

Kids Safety Tip

Remember to remind your children: First, remember never to give out personal information such as your name, home address, school name, or telephone number in a chat room or on bulletin boards. Also, never send a picture of yourself to someone you chat with on the computer without your parent's permission.

Freebie for the Day

Check out this site: http://www.ebates.com/ Shop through Ebates, and earn up to 25% Cash Back at your favorite stores. How? Simple. Our merchants pay us to send you to them. We turn those commissions into Cash Back by giving the commission right back to you, in Cash. No forms to fill out, no strings attached. Check out our full store list here. There is a one time sign up deposit into your account for $10. This is free money for you as long as you make an online purchase through any qualifying stores. Visit this site for more info, I promise you can’t go wrong!

Notes:

Is anyone here missing a little white and black dog or know of someone near the Star Cleaners and Dollar General? Amanda at the cleaners has the puppy dog there with her if you are or know of whose puppy this is. She will keep it until Friday when she will give it to a customer who wants it.

Are there any family blogs that we can add to the right side here? If so, please email us your site!

Freebies for Wednesday

It’s Wedge Free Wednesday again! Click here: Hanes (20,000+ enter each Wednesday, details here)

New sign-ups for the Pillsbury Newsletter get a free $10 coupon booklet by mail. A great coupon offer to take advantage of, but it won't last long!

I bought a twelve pack case of Motts Veggie Blend 100% juice 14 oz bottles over the weekend thinking our daughter would like them. Unfortunatly she doesn't and neither does anyone else here in our home. There are ten left. With that said, these are free to who ever stops and picks them up from in front of my garage today. If you stop by and don't see them, then someone else already picked them up! I am at 144 Shoreview Drive.

Money Saving Tip

As seen on the biggest loser last night, instead of buying the expensive colorful throw away dishware for the holidays, use those dishwasher safe dishes! It’s amazing how much this will save you!

Health Tip

When buying veggies and getting them home, put them in Ziploc produce bags and seal them tightly, this will keep them much longer. You should be eating five servings of vegetables every day!

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Health Tip

Adults need at least seven to nine hours of sleep every night to stay healthy, happy, and awake! That is restful sleep and not interrupted sleep!

Money Saving Tip

Write a list before you go shopping - and stick to it. One should never go into a store without a strong idea of what one will be buying while in there. Make a careful plan of what you’ll buy before you go, then stick strictly to that list when you go to the store. Don’t put anything in the cart that’s not on the list, no matter how tempting, and you’ll come out of the store saving a bundle. (Especially when you’re going to Walmart!)

Music brings great health and stress relief benefits. It's a great stress relief tool because you can use music in your daily life and achieve many stress relief benefits on your own. One of the great benefits of music as a stress reliever is that it can be used while you conduct your regular activities so that it really doesn’t take time away from your busy schedule.

It’s Saturday!

Just a reminder that if you’re out shopping this weekend, remember to pick up a toy for our Toy Drive on December 13th. It seems like that is a little while away, but it will be here before you know it. It doesn’t need to be wrapped. For each toy donated you will be in drawing for a $25 gift card to either Olive Garden, SaltGrass, or Chili’s. So make sure you pick up that gift today! More information at bottom of blog page.

Just a Reminder

I am looking for someone to take my dog, Buddy, a yellow Lab. He has all his shots up to date and has a microchip incase he runs away. We never registered him. He is around 2 and a half yrs old and is about 120lbs. He is house trained and is an inside dog. We back up to barbwired fence with woods and coyotes behind us. Buddy has tried to get out of the fence and has been successful almost everytime by going thru the barbwire fence. He is very sweet and lets my 4yr old climb all over him. It breaks my heart that we cant keep him and I won't let him go to a shelter. I would like to offer him free of charge to anyone in the neighborhood first.Ursula Mayorga1121 Rolling Meadow Dr 972-977-0515

These make spectacular gifts for others because they involve your homemade touch, plus quite often they’re consumable, meaning they don’t wind up filling someone’s closet with junk. Idea From Yesterday

Any recipes for the recipe book? I’m curious!!

Freebies for the Day!

Get a free can of Del Monte No Salt Added Diced Tomatoes just by being one of the first 50,000 members to request the coupon.

Get over $27 in coupons in the Home Made Simple Coupon Book to save on household products from Procter & Gamble. This is a great coupon book that is available several times each year, so go ahead and request yours again! It doesn't hurt to ask, they will tell you if you've already received this current offer. They just keep changing the expiration dates of the coupons inside and reissuing it. This coupon booklet still contains the coupon for a free bottle of Cascade Rinse Aid. I've used that coupon to buy this product at Target and it saved me $3.24. You should receive your coupon book within 6 to 8 weeks.

NeSmith Elementary Fundraiser

Now here is a fundraiser that does not cost you a dime, just a trip up the road to NeSmith Elementary School. They have put a recycling bin out in front of their school. They are only collecting paper, newspapers, and magazines – Nothing else! Profits will be used to help purchase project supplies, textbooks, and other helpful tools for their school. So for those of you who regularly put this out for the recycling truck on Friday, can you take the extra minute to run it up to the school? If not, contact Bently Farms email and someone will gladly pick it up from you and deliver it to the school. For those of you who do not recycle, why not start now?

Money Savings Tip

Turn off the television. One big way to save money is to watch less television. There are a lot of financial benefits to this: less exposure to guilt-inducing ads, more time to focus on other things in life, less electrical use, and so on. It’s great to unwind in the evening, but seek another hobby to do that.

Idea!

It seems like during the holiday season everyone has that special dish that they can make that everyone loves. Wouldn’t it be neat to put a neighborhood recipe file together? If you have a dish you’d be willing to share the recipe to, please submit it to the Bently Farms email. I will compile these into a file that can be shared amongst those who have shared their recipes!

Freebies for the Day!

Make sure to run your arrow over these freebie paragraphs so that you can see the link to follow to receive them!

Walgreens $5 off $20 this Friday or Saturday

Get a free 9-pack sample of 3 flavors of Nutrasweet when you complete a simple four question survey. Nutrasweet is offering this free sample through StartSampling and it sounds like a generous sample size so I would expect them to run out quickly! It's always nice to try new products before you buy them. You can expect your sample in 6 to 8 weeks. Nutrasweet has offered free samples in the past and I have received them!

Weekly Reminders:

Neighbor's Offer:
Not sure all the neighbors know, but if they send Mike a customer who purchases a new or used vehicle and they tell him who sent them with their phone number, once the deal funds he mails the person who sent them a check for $100 extra cash is important these days. All they have to do is call Mike at 214-808-4449 and set up an appointment to see what he has available or pop in at Bob Tomes Ford in McKinney and ask for Mike Cooper

Ladies Night Out
I will be having a Ladies Night Out at my house in the back yard if the weather is nice (we will have a fire in the pit if not windy and if too cold, we will be inside). Starts around 7 ish and my friend will be here with Silpada silver jewelry to order if anyone is interested- think Christmas gifts. And if not interested, just come and have a bowl of soup and some laughs...RSVP to my cell if coming... (972) 693-2988. It will be this next Friday evening, the 14th. Jennifer Turner

Improvement News:
Since Mr. Teske has been so generous in helping the front island look so nice and working with Lavon water, he is wondering if all of us can give $25 to help. That will pay for a whole year of watering the front island. Can you help? Please email Bently Farms email! Let’s help him out!

Money Savings Tip:
Turn your water heater down a few degrees. It is amazing how much this will help your electricity bill! It has also been shown that using cold water in your washing machine works just as well as using hot water.

Kids Safety Tip:
I was amazed when my ten-year-old son’s friend was over a few months ago and told me he did not know his home phone number, his mom’s cell number, or his dad’s cell number. Later I heard the same thing from a couple of other thirteen year olds. With cell phones now, kids do not have to know their numbers, all they have to do is find the name on their menu and hit call! What happens to them when their phone is not with them or is not working and they need to call? For safety, all parents need to teach their children all important phone numbers.

Freebie for the Day:

New and current members can get a free 8x11 Photo Book from Snapfish thanks to Oprah. Yes, you do need to pay the shipping (you cannot use coupon codes on this offer) - but this is a great offer that I think many of you will want to take advantage of. This book would normally cost you $29.99. Standard shipping is $6.99. You have to hurry and request your coupon by Friday, November 14.

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Note:

Please make sure to read the the messages from the days you haven't read. You never know when you may miss something good or something important!

Also, please remember to also forward any birthdays, anniversaries, or a new baby that is added to your family that you may want to announce!

Wonderful ways of making your own cleaning agents, thus saving you some money!

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Hey Everyone! I just wanted to extend some information regarding utility buildings and barns. I know this may be a boring subject; however, if you are thinking about one for your home give Tom Lail a call 972-843-4545. 144 Shoreview.

Tom has been building custom and standard barns for 20 years and can offer them much cheaper than the local building stores. Any size or style is possible plus they make your garage available again for your car/truck during hail season......That special Christmas gift.... and... just a way to store all the lawn furniture and summer items you want to keep safe from the cool weather. He has many references and design ideas are available.

Glad Food Storage Bags.

Health Tip

Move More Make it a daily challenge to find ways to move your body. Climb stairs if given a choice between that and escalators or elevators. Walk your dog; chase your kids; toss balls with friends, mow the lawn. Anything that moves your limbs is not only a fitness tool, it's a stress buster. Think 'move' in small increments of time. It doesn't have to be an hour in the gym or a 45-minute aerobic dance class or tai chi or kickboxing. But that's great when you're up to it. Meanwhile, move more. Thought for the day: Cha, Cha, Cha…. Then do it!

Money Saving Tip #3

Write a list before you go shopping - and stick to it. One should never go into a store without a strong idea of what one will be buying while in there. Make a careful plan of what you’ll buy before you go, then stick strictly to that list when you go to the store. Don’t put anything in the cart that’s not on the list, no matter how tempting, and you’ll come out of the store saving a bundle.

Health Tip

100 ounces of water recommended for your health every day! That sounds like a lot, but for one thing, it keeps you hydrated and keeps you from getting headaches.

Money Saving Tip Number Two:

Master the ten second rule. Whenever you pick up an item in order to add it to your cart or to take it to the checkout, stop for ten seconds and ask yourself why you’re buying it and whether you actually need it or not. If you can’t find a good answer, put the item back. This keeps me from making impulse buys on a regular basis.

Improvements:

This is the letter where LWS agrees to unlock our meter and the conditions we must meet. I also noted in the margins what has been spent, for what and when. I did the sprinkler repair on the broken pipe myself.
My sprinkler folks will be out in the near future to do the required back-flow testing and get that paperwork over to LWS.

I was the Environmental Chair for the Oakridge Neighborhood Assoc. for 4 years in Garland. We had a budget of $12K and over 250 members. Each member paid $48 dollars per year to help out. It was all voluntary. There were 8 entrances, 5 sprinkler systems, mowing and trash removal. Before I took it over none of the sprinkler systems was working and most of the plants died every summer. It took me 2 years to get things on an even keel.

As far as our situation her...being Goff Homes refugees....I just got tired of looking at the mess up there and decided to do something. You can't have plants without water so I went to LWS to get that part of it resolved. We could have something nice up there if we just take the time to see it through.
